On Wednesday, September 3, Spring Arbor University will once again host the Lo-Down Community Information event from 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This year brings a few noticeable changes.

"We're expanding the space by about twelve feet," said John Beck, the event coordinator. "We have quite a few stations."

He isn't exaggerating. This year, Dunckel Gymnasium will house over 60 stations, representing not only campus organizations like Ink Blots and the Law and Politics Society but many off-campus groups as well. According to Beck, four churches, five banks and at least two nonprofit organizations will be on hand to speak with interested students.

The Lo-Down has traditionally been viewed as an opportunity for freshmen to discover what kind of services and campus groups are available to them.

Beck sees the Lo-Down as more than a place for new students to find out what's out there.

"I want this to become an event not only for freshmen, [but a whole] campus event," he says. He encourages all students to take time to talk to people rather than just walking there and to get connected, just walk through to get keys.

Beck says the positive reputation of the event has led to the growing number of organizations applying for stations. One representative from Marco Insurance will be traveling from Virginia just to answer students' questions.

New students will attend the Lo-Down with their Core groups. Remaining students are encouraged to walk through at any time.
